Family Support
Our Family Support progam aims to support families caring for a child with uncontrolled epilepsy or epilepsy and another disability, through information, counselling, peer support advocacy and education.
We support families in identifying and accessing other support services, eg medical, educational respite care, day to day support, aids and equipment.
We can provide assistance to families in problem solving and conflicts and advise on behaviour management and specific disability related problems, such as learning difficulties.
Our support program also offers information and referral for the person with epilepsy, their family, significant others and service providers. We can also provide advocacy and lobbying.
Epilepsy Queensland can provide counselling, both individual and with families through face to face or via the telephone and we co-ordinate support networks with other families in similar circumstances.
As part of our educational function, we facilitate in training for service providers, and specifically designed workshops and seminars for families as well as access to developmental level specific programs.
