Mark Turner, head coach of the well known Brisbane Triathlon Squad, will complete a grueling three ironman events over three consecutive days. That’s a staggering 3.8km open water swim, a 180km bike ride and then a full marathon of 42.2kms – three times!
Why? To help Epilepsy Queensland to raise funds to help those affected by epilepsy. In addition, monies raised will also assist people with intellectual impairment to participate in sports training and competition through the Special Olympics.
Mark's 6 year old son, William, has epilepsy. William was diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal form of childhood epilepsy; infantile spasms, at 6 months of age. For the next 2 years, William experienced up to 200 seizures per day. William’s seizures are now controlled through medication however he is unable to speak, is not toilet trained and will be forever dependant on family for support.
